Associate Dean Research in the Faculty of Nursing

We are seeking an experienced teacher and researcher to take on the Associate Dean (Research) role with the Faculty of Nursing.  The Associate Dean Research (ADR) provides leadership in advancing the Faculty of Nursing strategic goals to position faculty research at the forefront locally, nationally, and internationally.  The ADR is charged with creating a supportive environment for faculty to advance in their research programs, achieve success in attracting research funds, and situate the Faculty to meet future research requirements.  Working closely with individual faculty members to enhance the capacity and quality of research in the Faculty of Nursing, the ADR remains active in academic scholarly pursuits by maintaining teaching and/or research activities and, if applicable, engaging in nursing practice.

The key responsibilities of the Associate Dean Research role include:

  • Builds a significant Faculty research profile and develops a culture that supports innovative research.
  • Takes a leadership role, collaborating with others (VP Research, Associate Dean Graduate Programs, Associate Dean Undergraduate Programs, Associate Dean Global Health) in promoting and developing research capacity among faculty, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students.
  • Identifies and supports interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research; fosters research leadership development and stewardship in areas of established and emerging research excellence.
  • Coordinates research initiatives and leads in the management of the research operations of the Faculty of Nursing.
  • Supports faculty in pursuing high-quality scholarship and in obtaining research grants and contracts.
  • Ensures that the Nursing Research Portfolio Office (RPO) strategic priorities are aligned with the Faculty of Nursing and University of Alberta priorities.
  • Oversees the administration of the Research Portfolio Office and designs processes and structures to ensure necessary support systems are available to faculty.
  • Acts as the Dean’s delegate for various purposes in their absence or as requested.

Applicants must be eligible for appointment to the rank of Associate or Professor with tenure.  As a qualified applicant, you hold a PhD, have a proven research focus and publication record and can demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence.
