Associate / Full Professor of Media, Culture, and Communication and Cinema Studies

New York University

United States

Description

New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development’s Department of Media, Culture, and Communication and Tisch School of the Arts' Cinema Studies Department invite applications for a tenure-track associate or full professor position to begin in September 2020.  This is a joint position between the two schools, with the primary academic home in the NYU Steinhardt Department of Media, Culture, and Communication. We are committed to substantially increasing the proportion of our faculty from historically underrepresented groups as we strive to create the most intellectually diverse, inclusive, and equitable institution that we can, and especially encourage candidates from historically underrepresented groups to apply.

We seek a scholar with an established reputation and proven leadership potential, who can extend strengths within and collaboration across schools. Research specialization in areas of interest to both departments is required. For example, we welcome candidates whose expertise lies in critical visual theory including surveillance and counter-surveillance, platform studies, law and policy, anti-colonialism, critical race theory and media, historical and theoretical approaches to computational media, or structures of the archive and data studies.

Responsibilities: Conduct important research; provide academic instruction and advisement at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level; participate in faculty meetings, on departmental committees, and provide other service to the University.

Qualifications

A doctoral degree and an active agenda of research and publication, as well as a demonstrated commitment to excellence in scholarship, teaching, mentoring, and service leadership is required.

Application Instructions

Please apply online with a letter of application, curriculum vitae, research statement, teaching statement, diversity statement (describing how you address diversity and inclusion in the scope of your past, present, and future teaching, research, and community engagement), uploads or links to three samples of scholarly work, and the names and contact information for three referees, who will be automatically contacted via Interfolio on your behalf to upload confidential letters.

Application review will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.  For best consideration, materials should be submitted no later than January 17, 2020. Additional information about the position can be obtained from Professor Lisa Gitelman, Search Committee Chair, at gitelman@nyu.edu.
