Summary Description

Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (CUVCPS) has commenced a search for a nationally recognized physician/scientist to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery. The Chair ensures that the neurological surgery department’s research and educational missions is fully integrate with the ever-expanding clinical mission and enterprise which is based within the New York-Presbyterian Health Care Delivery System (NYPH).
This position represents one of the most important leadership opportunities in academic neurological surgery and requires a consummate physician/scientist, leader/executive with the vision and experience to ensure that neurological surgery healthcare services, research, and education are world renowned. The Chair of Neurological Surgery reports to the Executive Vice President and Dean of the Faculties of Health Sciences and Medicine, and Chief Executive of Columbia University Medical Center.

Minimum Degree Required

M.D. or M.D./Ph.D Degree

Minimum Qualifications

• (Certification/Continuous Certification) by the American Board Neurological Surgery:
• A distinguished academic career including a leadership role within a complex academic medical center department.
• A highly regarded basic, translational, and/or clinical research background, with track record of scholarly achievements, extramural funding and peer-reviewed publications.
• Clinical achievement, scholarly accomplishments, leadership aptitude and experience commensurate with appointment to the faculty at the rank of Professor.
• A strong commitment to continued diversification of the faculty and trainees of the department, especially regarding recruitment and retention of women and under-represented minorities.
• Eligible for a medical license in New York State.
