Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Neuroscience with a Focus on Brain Imaging Analysis

Stockholm University's Brain Imaging Center (SUBIC), within the Department of Linguistics, is an infrastructure for advanced transdisciplinary research on brain function and structure. In addition to offering researchers at Stockholm University access to a range of brain imaging methods, one of SUBIC's main functions is to offer extensive training and support in the analytical methods used to process brain imaging data. Teaching is therefore offered at all levels (undergraduate, advanced, and graduate level) but with a focus on the graduate level.

Subject/subject description

Neuroscience with focus on brain imaging analysis and mathematical modelling.

Main responsibilities

The advertised position is full-time (100%). The position entails teaching and administrative duties (at present 70%) and research and skills development (at present 30%). The focus within teaching is on independent courses in brain-imaging analysis at advanced and graduate level, but teaching within the framework of post-graduate workshops might also be requested. Other tasks may include supervision and project, at various levels of training, as well as course design and pedagogical development.

The administrative duties comprise partly of project support. The administrative duties consist partly of project support. Given SUBIC’s need to enhance access and provide user support, the applicant must have documented experience of project consultancy in advanced brain imaging analysis as well as of individualised assistance. Part of the administrative tasks involves assisting SUBIC’s director with administrative duties related to the administration of the infrastructure.

The holder of the position is expected to conduct research, initiate and lead research projects as well as promote further development of SUBIC's knowledge base.

Qualification requirements

Eligible applicants for the position of senior lecturer in neuroscience with a focus on brain imaging analysis must hold a PhD in a subject relevant to the position and have documented pedagogical skills in teaching brain imaging analysis as well as experience of providing project support.

Ability to teach in English is a requirement, as is basic knowledge in the Swedish language.

A general assessment criterion is the ability to work with other people, as well as other general abilities required to perform one’s duties.

Assessment criteria

Special emphasis is placed on experience of teaching and administrative expertise and strong emphasis on scientific expertise.

When assessing pedagogical skills, particular consideration will be given to

  • documented experience of teaching and supervision in brain imaging,
  • experience in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI),
  • broad experience of teaching brain imaging methodology at different levels (from beginner to postgraduate level) and in different fields of science, and
  • experience of several different teaching methods and analysis methods

In the assessment of administrative skills, consideration will be given to

  • documented experience of project support in advanced brain imaging analysis for users from different fields of science,
  • documented experience of administration related to infrastructure and
  • administration related to teaching

In the assessment of scientific proficiency, special consideration will be given to

  • research based on advanced analysis methodology,
  • broad subject background and / or experience of cross-disciplinary collaboration and
  • development of innovative analysis methods of brain imaging data.

Special emphasis is placed on documented ability to collaborate with colleagues from a variety of fields of science.

The skills should be documented in such a way that it is possible to assess the quality of the pedagogical, administrative, and scientific merits.

Furthermore, applicants shall demonstrate documented good collaborative skills and the ability to initiate and implement national and international research collaborations.

Teaching and learning in higher education

Completed university pedagogy training totaling at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education is meritorious. An applicant who does not have at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education must complete such training within the first two years of employment. Applicants who consider themselves to have equivalent knowledge without having undergone formal education must state in their application how that knowledge has been acquired and why it corresponds to the competence provided by formal education.

Additional information

The applicant must, within two years of appointment, be able to perform both teaching and administrative tasks in both Swedish and English.
