The research mission of the International Urban Development
Laboratory is to research (1) soil mechanics, geo-mechanics, (2)
geo-environmental engineering, (3) geo-construction engineering,
and/or related fields.

The educational mission of this particular position is to educate the
International Course Program of Civil Engineering at the
Undergraduate School of Global Engineering, Kyoto University. A
successful candidate should be able to teach “Soil Mechanics I and
Exercises”, “Soil Mechanics II and Exercises”, “Experiments on
Soil Mechanics and Exercises”, “Geoenvironmental Engineering”,
“Rock Engineering”, “Computer Programming in Global
Engineering”, which are provided by the Faculty of Engineering. In
addition, he/she should also teach “Scientific English II”,
“Introduction to Earth Science A”, “Practice of Basic Informatics”
and “Introduction to Engineering Geology”, which are provided by
Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The activity missions of the Laboratory are closely related to those
of the other geotechnical engineering laboratories: “Construction
Engineering and Management”, “Geofront System Engineering”,
“Urban Management Systems” and “Environmental Infrastructure
Engineering (Global Environmental Studies)” in the Department of
Urban Management, and “Geomechanics” and “Geotechnics for
Hazard Mitigation (Disaster Prevention Research Institute)” in the
Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering. The
“International Urban Development Laboratory”, therefore, is
expected to collaborate with these other laboratories on education
and research conducted by the Department of Urban Management,
the Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering, and the
Undergraduate School of Global Engineering – International Course
Program, and for the management of their school duties.

A successful candidate has (i) a degree of either PhD or Doctor of
Engineering or Science in geotechnical engineering or related
academic fields, (ii) distinguished research record in the areas of the
mission of the division, (iii) academic and/or practical experience in
universities or research institutions, (iv) ability and enthusiasm in
the management of the international course program and the
department, (v) ability of verbal and written communications in
English, and (vi) ability to deliver classes in English.

Start Date
Anticipated on March 1st, 2020 or later at the earliest possible date.

Six months in accordance with the regulations of Kyoto University

Full-time employment in a discretionary work system, based on 7
hours, 45 minutes (8:30-17:15 work schedule with a one-hour break)
per day, 38 hours 45 minutes per week.

Days off: Saturday, Sunday, national holidays, Year-end and New
Year holidays, Foundation Day, and summer vacation.

University can ask for opinions on the research and education
experiences of the candidate.
