The holder of this position will join the Programme for Air, Water, and Landscape Science which encompasses education and research in meteorology, hydrology, environmental assessment, and physical geography. The meteorological research today in this programme covers a wide range of topics: climate and climate extremes, boundary-layer meteorology, renewable energy, air-water interaction, arctic meteorology and the carbon cycle. We are now looking for a person to add to and complement the already existing competences within the group.

Description of subject area of the employment: The successful candidate will join the research programme Air, Water and Landscape Science, Department of Earth Sciences, Uppsala University, Sweden. For this position we are looking for candidates with competences in either or both of: 1) Atmospheric chemistry, including atmospheric aerosols and dispersion modelling; 2) Numerical modelling of the atmosphere for weather prediction, including applications of machine learning. Equal weight is given to both subject areas.

Duties:

  • Teaching, research and administration. Teaching duties include course responsibility and course administration and supervision of second- and third-cycle students. The holder of the position is primarily expected to teach courses within meteorology at the Bachelor and Master in Meteorology educational programs and the programme for environmental and water engineering.

  • Follow developments within the subject area and the development of society in general that is important for the work at the university.

In assessing research expertise research quality must be the prime consideration. The scope of research, primarily in regard to depth and breadth, must also be afforded consideration. In assessing research expertise special weight will be given to research merits in either or both of: 1) Atmospheric chemistry; 2) Numerical modelling of the atmosphere. Equal weight is given to both subject areas. For 1), this includes expertise in atmospheric aerosols, air quality, modelling and/or measurements of transport processes. For 2) this includes expertise in development of numerical models for weather prediction, ensemble modelling and/or machine learning approaches for weather predictions.

Furthermore, consideration must be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and education in the third cycle, the ability to acquire funding for research in competition, as well as the demonstrated capacity to interact with others both within academia and in the wider community.

Teaching Expertise comprises educational and teaching qualifications.
