Description of the workplace

The Developmental Immunology Unit, lead by Research Group Manager Joan Yuan, currently has eight lab members including staff and trainees at the pre- and postdoctoral levels with diverse cultures and scientific backgrounds. Located on Biomedical Center in Lund (BMC), our unit is embedded within the Division of Molecular Hematology which has a strong focus on blood and immune cell formation and function. Our division has weekly research in progress seminars and offers a stimulating scientific environment where the labs have highly complementary research interests. In the context of the Faculty of Medicine, our division is a part of the Dept of Laboratory Medicine.

Our lab is an active member of the Lund Stem Cell Center (SCC) and have an excellent and extensive working relationship with its affiliated facilities including the Bioinformatics and FACS core facilities. Our research is centered around understanding the function and formation of B cells early in life and primarily uses murine animal models to resolve the role of neonatal B cell memory in adult immunity. Work duties and areas of responsibility

As our Associate Researcher, you will have the responsibility to perform complex mouse experiments, establish new methods in the realm of tumor immunology, analyze and regularly present the results. As a driving force of a new project, you will have the responsibility to establish new collaborations between multiple labs to facilitate communication and overall progress of the project. You will have the responsibility to efficiently and securely manage a substantial mouse colony with complex genetic backgrounds and participate in the writing of ethical permits to perform animal work.

As an experienced researcher you will have the responsibility to stay current in the relevant literature as well as participate in the writing of grants and papers to help fund and disseminate the work. You will have the responsibility to keep careful electronic record of your work as well as training new lab members to promote continuity in the research and foster a nurturing environment in the lab.


The requirements for the position are:

  • A doctoral degree in medicine, or a similar subject relevant for the research, with focus on B cell development or cancer
  • Prior experience in B cell research using experimental animal models
  • Extensive experience in mouse colony management, multiallelic breeding strategies, and hands on work with inducible experimental mouse models
  • At least two years postdoc experience in relevant research area
  • Formal certification in FACS analysis and sorting and independent operation of BD FACS machines.
  • Formal certification in animal work applicable for Sweden
  • The employment requires that you can work independently as well as have the ability to collaborate with others in the research groups

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Experience in independently operating the FACS BD Symphony cell sorter
  • Experience in running the BD Rhapsody single cell analysis platform
  • Prior international research experience
  • Prior successful experience in multi lab research collaborations

The employment is for a permanent full time employment (100%), to start 2023-04-01 or according to agreement. A probationary period of 6 months may be applied.
