Women’s College Hospital (WCH) invites applications for a dynamic, visionary medical leader to serve as Head, Department of Psychiatry. This is a five-year term leadership appointment, renewable following review, and requires eligibility for a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.
The anticipated start date is April 1, 2026 or as mutually agreed.

The Department Head will:
Report to the Hospital President & CEO, through the Vice President, Medical Affairs & System Transformation and Lead Medical Executive
Be accountable to the WCH Board for quality of care delivered by medical staff in Psychiatry
Be responsible to the Chair, Department of Psychiatry, Temerty Faculty of Medicine for academic activities
Work in dyad partnership with the Clinical Director for Mental Health
Collaborate with the WCH Foundation, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, partner hospitals, and community partner organizations to advance clinical programs, education, research, and philanthropy
Provide visionary leadership and operational oversight for the Department of Psychiatry at WCH
Align departmental priorities with WCH’s strategic plan, advancing transformative mental health care
Lead, mentor, and support a team of dedicated mental health clinicians and educators
Advance academic excellence through:
Teaching and postgraduate education
Research and scholarly activity
Creative professional initiatives
Contribute actively to WCH medical leadership
Build and strengthen partnerships within TAHSN, community agencies, and external stakeholders
Promote clinical innovation, continuous quality improvement, and interprofessional models of care
The successful candidate will:
Hold FRCPC certification (or equivalent) in Psychiatry
Be eligible for medical licensure in Ontario
Have a strong record of academic achievement in mental health education, research, or creative professional activity
Demonstrate excellence in leadership, mentorship, team-building, and supporting others’ academic development
Bring experience in:
Interprofessional care
Interprofessional education
Quality improvement
Fiscal and resource management
Have a deep commitment to social justice, equity, and the health of women and diverse communities
Exhibit a compassionate, empathetic, and inclusive leadership style, with the ability to inspire shared vision and high performance
Compensation for the Department Head role reflects an estimated 2.5 days per week leadership commitment, in addition to:
Clinical compensation
Academic support
Fee-for-service billings
Sessional fees
