We are looking for a leader or future leader at the crossroads of Molecular Microbiology and Systems Biology.
Location: AMSTERDAM
FTE: 1 - 1
Please apply at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
The new chair of Microbiology is established to further strengthen the current team, which consists of Molecular/ Medical Microbiology (Luirink, Bitter, Houben) and Systems Biology (Bruggeman, Teusink). Together these sections have recently been integrated in a new department, A-LIFE, together with the Ecology and Environmental Health sections.
The candidate must be senior and have a strong research profile with proven ability to attract funding (NWO, EU). A strong, individual research line in the field of Microbiology is required. The quality of the candidate and not the research topic itself is leading. The research topic could be linked to the current themes in the department, at the interface between different themes or represent a completely novel line of research. Potential focus areas include Genetics, Structural Biology, Cell Biology, Synthetic Biology, Evolution, Host-Pathogen relationships, Bacterial communities, Biotechnology and Antimicrobials. Potential connections with the broader interest areas within the A-LIFE department are welcomed but not mandatory.
In addition, the chair will play a key role in educational programs such as the Bsc programs “Biology” and “Biomedical Sciences”, and the MSc programs “Biomolecular Sciences” and “Bioinformatics and Systems Biology”.
