Position Summary
The Department of Biology at the University of Miami invites applications for the Robert E. Maytag Chair of Ornithology. We seek exceptional and internationally recognized ornithologists who are passionate about avian research and committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education. The appointment will be made at the rank of Associate Professor (tenure-eligible) or Professor (tenure-eligible), with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2026.
Research Areas

Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biology or a related field
Strong record of ornithological research accomplishments and extramural research funding
Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentorship at undergraduate and graduate levels
Commitment to departmental, university, and professional service
Responsibilities
Maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including a regular course in Ornithology
Engage actively in departmental and university service and in professional activities
