Sinai Health System (SHS), a fully affiliated academic hospital of the University of Toronto, invites applications for the Psychiatrist-in-Chief. We seek an experienced, contemporary leader capable of:
Developing and implementing a strategic vision
Building teams and establishing productive partnerships
Leading clinical, academic, and operational management of the Department of Psychiatry
The Psychiatry Department comprises 31 full-time Active Staff and 22 part-time staff, providing services at Mount Sinai Hospital and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital. Areas of focus include:
Inpatient psychiatry
Consultation/liaison services
Ambulatory and community mental health programs
Specialized programs such as perinatal and women’s mental health, and geriatric psychiatry
The Psychiatrist-in-Chief will:
Collaborate with operational and medical leaders at Sinai Health and the University of Toronto
Develop and implement strategic planning aligned with Hospital and University priorities
Manage philanthropic funding and report on fund usage in collaboration with Sinai Health Foundation
Foster a culture of equity, diversity, inclusion, professionalism, and physician wellness
MD degree
Certification (or eligibility) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry
Licensure (or eligibility) in Ontario, Canada
Eligibility for a senior academic appointment (Associate or Full Professor) at the University of Toronto
Visionary leader with strong operational management skills
Excellent communication and mentorship abilities
Commitment to high-quality care, interprofessional education, and advancing research and scholarship
Reports to: President & CEO, Sinai Health and Chair, Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto
Remuneration: According to provincial psychiatrist compensation; commensurate with academic rank, qualifications, and experience
Time Commitment: 3 days/week dedicated to the role; continued active psychiatry practice expected
Term: 5-year appointment, renewable once upon successful review
Effective Start Date: February 1, 2026, or shortly thereafter
