The School of Public Health and Community Medicine, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts extensive education and research in global public health, general medicine, occupational medicine, environmental medicine, social medicine, medicine use and pharmaceutical policy. We also conduct education and research within nutritional epidemiology, insurance medicine, innovation and utilization, health economics, biostatistics and register epidemiology.

The research group conducts research on risk profiles and protective factors regarding mental and physical health among adolescents with a focus on cardiovascular health /ill health and especially stress and high blood pressure. The aim is to continue to follow up and re-examination of adolescents to evaluate how different environments and background affects the individual's physical and mental health, "well-being" in the longer period. An important part of the research work is to determine hair cortisol concentration.

We are looking for a biomedical scientist to participate in the project with focus on analyzing hair cortisol, as well as to participate in field studies and to perform simple examinations of young people with the aim of studying the importance of various factors to explain chronic stress.

Job assignments

The work includes:

  • Conducting analyses of hair cortisol in research lab. Several important steps are included in the analysis process; extraction by incubation of the hair sample followed by working with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry;
  • Ensuring good and quality-assured data management and statistical analysis.

The works also includes performing simple examinations of high school students/young adults such as measuring blood pressure, weight and height, as well as collecting hair samples.


For this position, a license in biomedical science is required, as well as a degree in Biomedical Science with specialization in laboratory medicine and good knowledge of statistics analysis. Documented experience from work as a biomedical scientist and experience from research in health care is also required as the work is part of a larger research project.

It is a merit to have:

  • Experience from working with adolescents.
  • Data management skills and good knowledge of Excel and Word.

The applicant should be able to work independently, be flexible and have good collaboration ability. In assessment, great emphasis is placed on personal suitability. The applicant must have a category B driving license.
