The Opportunity

Applications are invited for the position of Chair in the Department of Entrepreneurship & Strategy in the , effective July 1, 2020, for a three-year term of office, with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional three-year terms. 

This position falls under the jurisdiction of the Ryerson Faculty Association (RFA) ().

The duties and responsibilities of Department Chair are laid out in detail in article 26.1.e. of the . Reporting to the Dean, the Chair will provide exemplary academic and administrative leadership, including stewardship of human and financial resources, and will work collaboratively to provide leadership for curriculum and faculty development, research and scholarly activity, while promoting and coordinating the continued evolution of the department.  The new Chair will be a visionary leader who can take the department to the next level of achievement, consistent with the academic plan of the Faculty and the University.

The Chair will be responsible for building partnerships with industry that will provide learning and employment opportunities for our students, including the Co-operative Education program or experiential opportunities for students. The individual must be committed to excellence in teaching, research and student engagement, and to promoting a transparent and collegial academic culture that blends theory and practice in undergraduate and graduate education.


The successful candidate will have earned a DBA or PhD in Entrepreneurship or Strategy, or a closely related field and will demonstrate the following: 

  • capacity to provide effective academic and administrative leadership; 
  • experience in university teaching in entrepreneurship and strategy in a variety of business contexts and the capacity to contribute to both graduate and undergraduate teaching levels;
  • commitment to developing student engagement initiatives; 
  • ability to be an ambassador in promoting the department across the university and within industry;
  • demonstrated commitment to upholding the values of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly, research or creative activities;
  • productive scholarly record that at least meets the AACSB accreditation standards; and
  • ability and willingness to mentor junior faculty.
