Position Overview

TMU invites applications for a world-class researcher in AI-driven Medical Imaging to hold a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair. The role combines research, teaching, and service, with a focus on:

  • Leading an independent, internationally recognized research program in AI-driven medical imaging.

  • Mentoring and supervising graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees.

  • Engaging in interdisciplinary collaborations with hospitals and research centers in Toronto, including St. Michael’s Hospital and TMU’s School of Medicine.

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in physics or medical physics.

  • Contributing to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in research, teaching, and mentorship.

TMU offers a research ecosystem with over $22M in recent investments, access to clinical and biomedical facilities, and collaboration with the Greater Toronto research hospital cluster.


Qualifications

Candidates must:

  • Hold a PhD or terminal degree in Medical Physics, Physics, or a related discipline.

  • Be a full professor, or an associate professor expected to be promoted to full professor within 1–2 years, or have equivalent qualifications outside academia.

  • Be recognized internationally as a leader in their field.

  • Have an outstanding record in research, including publications, patents, grants, and collaborative projects.

  • Demonstrate ability to attract and mentor diverse students and postdoctoral fellows.

  • Develop an original, innovative research program of the highest quality.

  • Show commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), including mentoring and creating an inclusive research environment.

  • Be capable of teaching students with diverse backgrounds and experiences in Physics and Medical Physics.


Canada Research Chair Tier 1 Highlights

  • Tier 1 CRC is tenable for 7 years, renewable once.

  • Eligible for infrastructure support via the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund.

  • Supports TMU’s strategic priorities in Health and Wellbeing and Transformative Technology.

  • Tier 1 Chairs are expected to have world-class impact in their research domain and contribute to Canadian innovation, societal benefit, and research leadership.

Salary & Rank

  • Associate Professor minimum: $131,194.32 per annum

  • Full Professor minimum: $150,029.14 per annum
