Position Summary

We seek an inclusive and forward-looking leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Educational Administration (EAD) in the College of Education at Michigan State University (MSU). This position will come with a rank of Professor with Tenure.  As a department of national educational leaders and scholars who work to advance social justice and human well-being, we are eager for an accomplished and talented colleague to help us advance our efforts and impact on society. A successful leader of our team will accomplish this by ensuring a robust departmental commitment to inclusion and equity, effectively advocating for EAD within our institution and state, cultivating the success of EAD students, staff, and faculty with sensitivity to career stage, and anticipating and proactively addressing opportunities and challenges tied to the changing landscape of higher education. Our next leader will meaningfully advance this community and the effectiveness, prominence, and societal impact of the department.

Both EAD and the College of Education at MSU boast a long history of highly ranked and respected doctoral and master’s-level programs in K-12 Educational Administration, Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education, and Education Policy. Home to 31 faculty members and approximately 350 students across its seven degree programs, two certificates, and graduate certificate pathway program, EAD is one of four departments within the College of Education. The EAD faculty includes a number of prominent national and international leaders, including current and past association presidents, association board members, and journal editors. Over the last six years, EAD has hosted eight journals through editor and co-editor teams. Accordingly, EAD is engaged in framing national and international dialogues across several educational fields. Situated in a Land-Grant Institution, EAD faculty and students are also deeply committed to addressing local, national, and international educational needs. Building on our tradition of leadership, we aspire to leverage the expertise and talents of our faculty, staff, and students to foster a culture of inclusive excellence that disrupts unjust institutional and societal structures and enables the actualization of learners and society. This is an annual position with a desired start date of July 1, 2020.

· Administer departmental fiscal, management, and administrative processes in line with strategic priorities and a commitment to collaborative decision-making.

· Facilitate engagement and outreach with such entities as K-12 schools, higher education institutions, government and community agencies, and educational policy communities.
