The Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Zurich invites applications for a professorship in Parasitology (open rank). The position should be filled by February 1, 2022.

Responsibilities

The Institute of Parasitology is affiliated with both the Vetsuisse Faculty and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zurich (UZH) and is an internationally recognized center of competence in many areas of Parasitology research. It has access to an outstanding research infrastructure, including image analysis, omics platforms, and animal facilities. As several senior research group leaders at the institute will retire in coming years, the successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to fundamentally reshape the scientific direction.
The Professor/Chair of Parasitology will be responsible for maintaining and promoting outstanding basic and translational/applied research in Veterinary and Human Parasitology and innovative teaching modules at both undergraduate and graduate level. She/He will take advantage of the broad interdisciplinarity of the Vetsuisse Faculty, the Faculty of Medicine, and the University of Zurich by establishing strong research collaborations. She/He is expected to offer the European Veterinary Parasitology College (EVPC) Residency Program at the Institute. She/He will supervise the diagnostics service to the veterinary and human clinical disciplines and provide expert service to Public Health and federal institutions.

Profile

Applicants must have a primary and doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine, Medicine or Biology, and a habilitation or an equivalent or higher qualification. They must have an excellent research record in Parasitology and a strong interest in Veterinary and Human Parasitology. Applicants must have achieved outstanding scientific qualifications and must have demonstrated successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding and promotion of young researchers in their academic careers. For this, a convincing long-term concept for the development of the field and the promotion of young scientists is to be presented and implemented. A high level of social competence is mandatory and knowledge of business administration is an advantage. Candidates must have several years of leadership experience as well as excellent teaching skills. The research priorities should complement the existing research foci at the Institute of Parasitology and the Vetsuisse Faculty. Applicants are fluent in English and German, or willing to acquire a solid basis of the German language within 2-3 years.
