Chair Professor of Urology

Yale University

United States

Chair, Department of Urology

Yale University School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair, Department of Urology.

The Yale Department of Urology was formed in 2012, having previously been a Division of the Department of Surgery.  Its founding and only Chair to date, Dr. Peter Schulam, led the Department through a period of significant clinical growth, expanding faculty and clinical sites on campus and throughout the Yale New Haven Health System network.  Today there are 20 faculty, thriving residency and fellowship programs, and nascent foci of research, some federally funded.  Dr. Schulam has stepped down from the Chair position to take a leadership role in the industry and a national search is underway for his successor.

The successful candidate will serve as both Chair of the Department of Urology and Chief of Urology for the Yale New Haven Health System.   They will be an accomplished and recognized leader in the field, one who is an exemplary surgeon and teacher, and has a track record of success in research and/or innovation. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a leadership style that is focused on the success of the faculty in all of their endeavors; commitment to the Chair’s role in institutional, as well as departmental leadership; deep understanding of the role of culture in organizational success; and a willingness to be both strategic and tactical in achieving department objectives.  The candidate must be committed to identifying and promoting opportunities for Urology faculty and trainees to collaborate across the School of Medicine in all three primary missions. The Chair will be seen as a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of the Department, and the institution, and their success will be measured in part by success in recruiting, developing, and promoting a diverse faculty.

Qualified candidates are those who: hold a medical degree (MD, MD/MPH, MD/MBA, MD/PhD) or equivalent; are board certified in Urology; and are eligible for licensure in the state of Connecticut and a faculty appointment at the Professor level in the Yale University School of Medicine.
