Clinical Research Associate in Diabetes and Metabolism

We are seeking a Clinical Research Associate wishing to pursue research in the area linking glucose sensor data with insulin pump delivery (closed loop systems) in adults, children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes. The research is funded by the National Institute for Health Research and other funding agencies. Possession of MRCP (UK) or its recognised equivalent is essential. The post would suit a doctor with training at UK ST2/3 level or above (or equivalent), wishing to gain experience in clinical and translational research. Postgraduate training in adult endocrinology / diabetes would be desirable for this post, but not essential.

Previous experience of clinical research methodology, preferably in the field of diabetes and metabolism would be desirable as would clinical expertise in the use of insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring. The successful applicant will join an internationally recognised team and will be based in the Institute of Metabolic Science on the Addenbrooke's Hospital campus, Cambridge.

There will be opportunities to pursue individual research projects and to present results at international scientific conferences. Regular contact with other researchers in this field will be expected and encouraged.

Key responsibilities of the post:

  • Assume leading role in research studies
  • Provide clinical care to study participants
  • Provide training and technical support to participants and collaborating sites
  • Analyse data and write scientific papers
  • Write research protocols and supporting study documents
  • Make presentations at scientific meetings

Essential Criteria:

  • We will only consider applicants who are currently GMC-registered Medical Practitioners, permitted to practice in the UK and who have completed their general medical training to the end of Foundation Year 2 or equivalent level.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.

This is an integrated appointment between the University and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust ("NHS Trust"). You will therefore also be issued with an Honorary Clinical Contract by the NHS Trust. You should be aware that if your contract with the NHS Trust is terminated your employment with the University will be terminated, and vice versa.
