About the Role

Applications are invited for a Clinical Research Fellow in Diabetes and Liver Disease within Barts Liver Centre, at Barts and the London School of Medicine.  Based in the Blizard Institute, the successful candidate will join Professor William Alazawi in his MRC-funded laboratory and have the opportunity to develop primary care pathways to detect liver fibrosis in people living with type 2 diabetes.

Recent publications from this group and others has highlighted the importance of diabetes as a risk factor for liver fibrosis and progressive liver disease. PRELUDE-1 is a study that will determine feasibility and acceptability of introducing a blood-test based marker of liver fibrosis into the annual diabetes review and whether subsequent second tier tests should be performed in the community or in secondary care.  As such the work has potential to transform the management of patients with type 2 diabetes.  This fully-funded project will lead to the award of an MD(Res) after two years’ research, although there is potential to extend this to a three year PhD.
