General practitioners who have gained their CCT are invited to apply for the post of Clinical Teaching Fellow in Primary Care within the multi-award winning Undergraduate Primary Care Education team, one of the UK’s largest teams of its kind with an exemplary national reputation of curricular innovation and research in the Department of Primary Care and Public Health, within the School of Public Health of Imperial College London. The Primary Care Education team in which this post sits, works with over 500 GPs to deliver teaching across multiple attachments in the MBBS programme at Imperial.

This is an exciting postgraduate training opportunity for those interested in developing a career in medical education, to train and develop their skills and academic qualifications as medical educators. At the end of the post, the post holder will have gained a wide range of educational experience and skills which will equip them to move on to further teaching and training roles.

Duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate will work with the Undergraduate Primary Care Education team, community GP tutors, students and Medical School faculty. They will also be supported by MEdIC, the team’s newly established innovation and research centre, to support them with their innovation and research skills and evaluation of a teaching project.

The appointee will be based at the Charing Cross campus (located in Hammersmith), as a member of the Department of Primary Care and Public Health and will be expected to participate generally in the department’s activities and may take on other duties in agreement with the Director of Undergraduate Primary Care Education. The appointee must continue to work part time as an NHS GP for the duration of the appointment.

Essential requirements

Teaching takes place both in General Practices and at the Medical School and encompasses a broad range of innovative teaching and assessment methods. The post holder needs to have a clinical role in a practice within a reasonable commuting distance of the medical school and be prepared to teach Imperial students where possible in their practice.
