The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Pharmacy invites applications for the position of Head, Department of Pharmacy Practice. The College of Pharmacy sets a national standard of excellence in pharmaceutical research, education, and clinical practice. Founded in 1859, the College is the oldest academic unit of the University of Illinois System. The College is currently ranked 6th in the nation by US News and World Report and consistently ranks in the top 10 in NIH funding. The College is among the top national tier of pharmacy schools for student diversity, faculty publications, patient care and outreach programs, and entrepreneurial endeavors.

The Department of Pharmacy Practice consists of 261 clinical- and tenure-track faculty providing comprehensive patient care services and scholarly activities as well as clinical, laboratory, and translational research on two campuses, Chicago and Rockford. In addition, responsibility for the operation of seven ambulatory pharmacies as well as a central hospital pharmacy and satellite pharmacies resides in the Department of Pharmacy Practice.


The Department Head reports directly to the Dean of the College of Pharmacy. Duties include efficient oversight of department operations including human resource and financial management, recruitment/retention of pharmacy practice faculty, ability to serve as an advocate for the department to the professional community, and a sophisticated knowledge of the issues confronting pharmacy practice.


The position of Head requires dynamic leadership, innovative vision, as well as outstanding communication and administrative skills that will enable him/her to enhance the ability of faculty, staff, and students to advance the excellence of programs and activities, including the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum, residency/fellowship programs, clinical practice, and research. In addition, applicants must have a strong history of clinical practice, sustained service to the profession, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity. Candidates should have an outstanding record of scholarly achievement for appointment as a tenured full professor, a terminal degree in pharmacy (post graduate residency and/or fellowship training is preferred) and be licensed or eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Illinois.
