Doctoral assistant in the area of comparative perinatal development

Job description

  • You contribute to teaching and research in the field of comparative perinatal development.
  • You will study perinatal developmental processes and changes and predominantly use the piglet as an animal model (for among others prematurity, intrauterine growth retardation). You collaborate with academic researchers from different disciplines (e.g. from veterinary medicine to pharmaceutical sciences) within the research group and the University as well as with non-academic partners (e.g. industrial partners). In this context, networking, competing for externally funded research grants and dissemination of research results is important.
  • You will compete to obtain externally funded research grants.
  • You will be assigned lecturing duties in the field of laboratory animal Sciences and embryology.

 Profile and requirements

  • You hold (or get during the application period) a doctorate degree (PhD) in Life Sciences and preferably Veterinary Sciences.
  • Knowledge of perinatal development by using animal models is a plus. Experience in a multidisciplinary research team is highly valued. Effective communication and writing skills and an excellent command of the English language are essential. A publication record which illustrates these skills and research interest in peer-reviewed journals, including at least two first or last author papers in the last 4 years, is essential. Proven project management skills are a plus.
  • The focus in your teaching corresponds to the educational vision of the university.
  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy.
  • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative.
  • You have active oral and written knowledge in Dutch (or are able to acquire them in short term).

 We offer

  • an appointment as a doctoral assistant for a period of three years, with a possibility of renewal for a further three-year period after positive evaluation;
  • the date of appointment will be 1 January 2021;
  • a full time gross monthly salary ranging from € 4.217,53 - € 6.574,78;
  • a dynamic and stimulating work environment.
