The Leuven Institute for Healthcare Policy (LIGB) aims to be a top research and training center on an international level. The LIGB focuses on research related to healthcare management and policies and comprises six pillars: quality and patient safety, health systems and policies, health economics, health law, healthcare communications and ethics. The Chair of Health Law and Health Ethics (AHLEC) conducts research, provides education and provides services in the field of health law and health ethics. The Person and Assets research group at the University of Antwerp conducts fundamental, policy and practice-oriented research into (international) private law. The legal core domains of the research group are personal and family law, family property law, contract law, insurance law, property law, private international law and health law. The doctoral research will be conducted within this last pillar.

The Leuven Institute for Healthcare Policy of the KU Leuven and the Law Faculty of the University of Antwerp (Chair of Health Law and Health Ethics and the Research Group Person and Wealth) are looking for a promising talent for a full-time (100%) doctoral grant in health law.
Your assignment:
  • You prepare a PhD in Law on a subject in health law.
  • You publish scientific articles related to the research project.
  • You are employed at the Leuven Institute of Healthcare Policy of the KU Leuven and the Law Faculty of the University of Antwerp.
  • You take on limited tasks of research support and services within the respective research groups.

  • You hold a Master's / Licentiate degree in Law.
  • Final year students can also apply.
  • You can submit excellent study results.
  • Strong interest in health law is a plus.
  • You have a good knowledge of English and French and you have excellent academic reading and writing skills.

We offer a PhD scholarship
  • for a period of one year, renewable after positive evaluation:
  • which will result in a double doctorate in law from KU Leuven and the University of Antwerp;
  • with start date 1 October 2019;
  • in a dynamic and stimulating research environment
