Doctoral Grant in Music Education

Catholic University of Leuven Kulak

The intended doctoral research is situated within the broad domain of "educational innovation in music education". The candidate works out a proposal that studies the implementation practice of educational innovation. This project can be situated in any context of music education (compulsory education, part-time art education, non-formal art education, etc.). The project takes place in two phases: a descriptive-analytical phase, in which a number of cases are investigated and reconstructed and ultimately a number of conditions or hypotheses regarding successful educational innovation are formulated. This is followed by practical research in the form of an interventionist phase within the own music education practice in which a defined educational innovation is implemented. In both phases attention is paid to the perception of the students as well as the perception of the music education professionals. With a view to the selection, the candidate has great freedom to present and justify his own research theme and design within the above guidelines.
