Third-cycle subject: Solid mechanics
Solid mechanics can be regarded as a link between materials science and applied mechanics and this project is expected to have large components of both. The motivation is the industrially relevant phenomenon of hydrogen embrittlement where even minute concentrations of hydrogen (H) in steel can make it brittle. The project will be conducted within Center for Mechanics and Materials Design that is a collaboration between KTH Materials science, KTH Solid mechanics, and several companies from Swedish industry. Funding for the project comes from Vetenskapsrådet.

Good knowledge in Swedish is advantageous. A suitable background is a master’s degree in engineering mechanics with a keen interest in materials science. Experience with experimental work is advantageous.

Target degree: Doctoral degree
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
