The Department of Nordic Languages has more than 100 employees and conducts research and teaching on the Swedish language in particular from different perspectives, not least a second language perspective, but also on the Nordic neighboring languages during both the older and younger language phases. The research at the department shows a great breadth when it comes to issues, theories and methods.


Job / Project Description:

The postgraduate education comprises four years of full-time studies. The education is financed through employment as a doctoral student. Institutional service, e.g. teaching, may (by agreement) be included in the work up to 20 percent of full service.


Qualifications:

For employment as a doctoral student, the holder is required to be admitted or will be admitted to postgraduate education. Qualified for admission to postgraduate education in Nordic languages is one that has both basic and special qualifications. Basic qualifications are those who have completed a degree at an advanced level, have completed course requirements of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits at the advanced level, or in other ways within or outside the country have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge. The special qualifications are regulated in the General curriculum for postgraduate education in Nordic languages (at Uppsala University), see: http://www.nordiska.uu.se/utbilding/forskarniva/ .

  • CV with register extracts from LADOK or the equivalent which proves general and special eligibility for postgraduate education.
  • Certified copies of diplomas.
  • Essays at basic and advanced level and / or degree projects.
  • A thesis plan (3 to 5 pages excluding references) that describes the project the applicant intends to complete.

Desirable / Other Qualifications:

Admission to doctoral student services is prepared by the department's supervisor's college and is decided by the head of department. The assessment is based on the applicants' ability to avail themselves of doctoral education. Particular importance is attached to the quality of the applicants' independent work and project descriptions. Oral project presentations and interviews with applicants may also be considered.

Salary: According to local collective agreement for doctoral students.

Type of Employment: Time-limited employment, in  accordance with HF Chapter 5, Section 7,  up to 2023-12-31 (without institutional service) alt. 2024-12-31 (with departmental service).
