The SEPTOMICS research center in Jena (www.septomics.de) seeks to fill the position of a

Doctoral Researcher Microbiology/Molecular Biology (m/f/d)

commencing on 01.10.2021. We offer a part-time position (65%), limited until 30.09.2024.

The Junior Research Group Host Fungal Interfaces performs state of the art research to investigate the pathogenesis of Candida albicans, the most common organism associated with fungal sepsis. C. albicans is under most circumstances a fairly ubiquitous commensal of the human microflora. In certain cases the fungus can become pathogenic. The aim is to identify factors and conditions that foster the transition from a harmless colonizer to an aggressive pathogen. With this regard the research group focuses on the regulation of metabolic adaptation processes that are required for successful growth and infection of the human host.

Your responsibilities:

You will investigate virulence traits of the opportunistic pathogenic yeast C. albicans and specifically focus on phenotypic and genetic analysis of C. albicans kinase deletion mutants.

Your profile

Master's degree (or equivalent) in Life Sciences (e.g. Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry)
Strong background and skills in microbiology, molecular biology and/or biochemistry.
Interest in fungal biology and fungal genetics
Very good communication skills in English and a high motivation to perform team-oriented as well as independent work are absolutely necessary
