The Department of Linguistics and Philology is an international environment with about 80 employees. We conduct education and research in the European classical languages, Asian languages and cultures, as well as computer linguistics and linguistics. Education is offered at basic and advanced levels in over 20 languages to our 1,400 students, as well as within postgraduate education.

The department has a broad research profile and we have many externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation.

Postgraduate education covers four years and is financed with employment as a doctoral student. Postgraduate students are required to complete their education full-time and actively participate in the department's activities. Teaching and / or administration at the department may occur, at most 20%.


Project Description: The dissertation project should fall within the framework of South Asian languages or literature or within the framework of comparative Indo-European linguistic research.


Qualification Requirements: To be eligible for postgraduate education in Indology / Indology with a focus on Comparative Indo-European Linguistics, a degree is required at the advanced level or equivalent knowledge of Indology, Comparative Indo-European Linguistics or equivalent.


Application Procedure: The  application must contain a letter in which the applicant briefly describes himself and his research interests. The application must also contain a thesis plan of the planned project, CV, copies of diplomas and degrees, thesis work and other documents that the applicant wishes to invoke. The application can be written in English or Swedish.

Salary: According to local collective agreement for doctoral students.
