Faculty position in Conservation Biology or Tropical Ecology

Two positions are available at Institute for Biodiversity and Enviromental Research (IBER) in Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD):

 

Position 1: Conservation Biology

Code: UBD/IBER/001

Level: Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Assistant Professor / Assistant Professor / Lecturer

 

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Conservation Biology or a closely related discipline from a recognized university and demonstrate an outstanding record of research and teaching excellence. Postgraduate supervision and teaching experience will be preferred. The applicants must have field research experience in tropical forests and are familiar with tropical flora and/or fauna. The successful applicant must contribute to research, academic and administrative duties at IBER. The applicant should be able to source funds nationally and internationally for the ongoing research activities in IBER. The applicant will be responsible for conducting research activities at IBER, particularly at Kuala Belalong Field Study Centre (KBFSC), as well as managing the IBER plots network, assist with the IBER database development, contributing to IBER education and outreach programmes, and to engage with local stakeholders on conservation issues in Brunei Darussalam. The applicant is also expected to contribute to co-teaching of relevant modules and co-supervise students’ projects at the Environmental and Life Sciences programme, Faculty of Science.

 

Position2: Tropical Ecology

Level: Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Assistant Professor / Assistant Professor / Lecturer

 

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Tropical Ecology or a closely related discipline from a recognized university and demonstrate an outstanding record of research and teaching excellence. Postgraduate supervision and teaching experience will be preferred. The applicants must have field research experience in tropical forests and/or tropical ecosystems. The successful applicant must contribute to research, academic and administrative duties at IBER. The applicant should be able to source funds nationally and internationally for the ongoing research activities in IBER. The applicant will be responsible for conducting research activities at IBER, particularly in Brunei’s natural ecosystems (such as forests), UBD Botanical Research Centre (UBD BRC), Kuala Belalong Field Study Centre (KBFSC), as well as managing the IBER plots network, assist with the IBER database development, contributing to IBER education and outreach programmes, and to engage with local stakeholders on biodiversity issues in Brunei Darussalam. The applicant is also expected to contribute to co-teaching of relevant modules and co-supervise students’ projects at the Environmental and Life Sciences programme, Faculty of Science.

About Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research (IBER)

IBER is a research institute within UBD established in 2013. Research and education projects at IBER focus on both terrestrial and marine biodiversity throughout Brunei Darussalam, as well as the interactions between biodiversity and its environment through collaborations with local and international counterparts as a platform for knowledge sharing and transfer as well as capacity building. IBER also plays a special emphasis on the coordination of research, education

and outreach activities at its premier international field research facility centre, the Kuala Belalong Field Studies Centre (KBFSC). Recently, IBER has expanded its biodiversity research thrust to include herbal and medicinal plant research projects at the UBD Botanical Research Centre (UBD BRC). All these opportunities further advance the growth of IBER and places its central importance for biodiversity research in the University.
