Location

Start date

Description

NYU Shanghai is currently inviting applications for an open rank position as Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Practice in Global Public Health. We are seeking applicants who can teach dynamic community engaged courses that utilize the urban setting as a teaching laboratory. We expect the candidate to teach Introduction to Global Health, and complement this course with lab-based teaching that connects students to community agencies, international NGOs, or other applied research and public health practice settings. Shanghai is a complex and diverse city, and as such, additional courses can be developed that explore urban health, complex health systems, migration, and other areas of the candidate's background and interests. The ability to offer a course in mixed methods or applied qualitative health research would also be highly valued.

Qualifications

We particularly seek applications from candidates who completed a doctorate in public health, epidemiology, or a closely related field (e.g., MD with an MPH). Candidates must have completed a PhD by the time of appointment in September 2023.

Although the candidate's teaching portfolio and interests will be the key criteria for evaluation and fit to the position, we also value candidates' research interests and portfolio and seek applicants who focus on the conduct of population health research, interventions, community-based participatory research, and implementation science. The particular area of research emphasis is open, but ideal candidates will demonstrate a strong social justice orientation, and advocate for health equity by complimenting existing research strengths in digital health, migration and health, global mental health, urban health, trauma and adversity, or sexual and reproductive health. Candidates who utilize digital health technologies and scalable approaches to improve population health and wellbeing are particularly desirable. Candidates will join and be supported by a vibrant public health research community housed in the NYU Shanghai Center for Global Health Equity.

Application Instructions

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research, statement of teaching interests (including a list of courses taught and those that could be developed), and at least one sample publication via Interfolio. Additionally, applicants will be prompted to enter the names and email addresses of at least three referees. Each referee will be contacted to upload a reference letter through Interfolio.

This is a Full-Time Continuing Contract Faculty (FTCC) position. Typical appointments are on 3 year terms, with expected teaching loads of 4 courses per academic year. While we seek applications from candidates with an active research profile, successful candidates will be hired on the basis of teaching and service.

Applications may be received until our priority deadline of December 15. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. If you have any questions, please email the NYU Shanghai NY Office of Faculty Recruitment shanghai.faculty.recruitment@nyu.edu

Terms of employment at NYU Shanghai are comparable to NYU New York and other U.S. institutions.
