Position Description:

The Department of Sociology announces the opening of a regular faculty position in the field of Historical
Sociology of Childhood and Family. This position is being created as part of a new research chair with
substantial resources, the objective of which is to generate new knowledge to further our understanding
of the various transformations affecting children and families in Quebec and around the world.

The chairholder will:

• foster, support and undertake sociological research on contemporary transformations of childhood and
family in Quebec and in other societies, with particular emphasis on their sociohistorical implications;
• create a research program that will be carried out through the constitution and coordination of a
research team;
• provide education for undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and teach classes
in the area covered by the chair and in sociology at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
• develop activities involving reflection, scientific animation and knowledge transfer on contemporary
issues related to childhood and family for the scholarly community, students and the general public;
• teach two courses per year in the Department of Sociology.
The successful candidate will be hired as a regular faculty member at Université Laval from the date of
his/her appointment.

Selection Criteria:

• Doctorate degree completed by November 1, 2021, in Sociology or in a discipline relevant to the research
objectives of the chair;
• Research skills in contemporary and historical social issues pertaining to childhood and family;
• Strong publication record and achievements in research;
• Ability to develop an original research program as well as scientific animation and knowledge transfer
initiatives that meet the chair's objectives;
• Ability to teach sociology at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels;
• Teaching experience will be considered an asset;
• Ability to teach in French.

Timeline:

The closing date for applications is June 1, 2021, where the relevant date is the date on the email. The
appointment is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2021.

Conditions:

Compensation in accordance with the current collective agreement. Start date: November 1, 2021
