Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the School of Interior Design (RSID) in the Faculty of Communication and Design at invites applications for a Limited-Term Faculty (LTF) position at the rank of Assistant Professor in areas such as design studio teaching, digital and hands-on making, materiality and methods, and technology. The appointment shall be effective August 1, 2021, for a one-year term, subject to final budgetary approval. 

The successful candidate will engage only in teaching and service duties in the RSID while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across such activities. The candidate will contribute to our undergraduate program Bachelors of Interior Design (BID) through teaching, mentoring and supervision of students to facilitate junior scholars and diversify the field. 

RSID’s seeks to address the underrepresentation of racialized persons in RSID at Ryerson University. RSID welcomes racialized candidates to demonstrate how their lived experiences inform a commitment to intersectional communities, teaching, and inclusive design practice. 

Candidates must hold a minimum of a terminal degree in interior design or allied creative career (such as an M.Arch or MFA) with experience in the expanding practice of interior design.  In addition, the successful candidate must present evidence of: 

• Demonstrated promise and capacity for teaching excellence in an undergraduate curriculum, as evidenced by a teaching dossier that includes a teaching philosophy statement, experience with course and curriculum review and/or development, examples of best practices in pedagogy, including effective use of classroom technology and any experience with experiential learning, and sample syllabi. 
• Commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to teaching and service activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population.

School of Interior Design

The School of Interior Design offers a rigorous undergraduate program with a progressive pedagogical agenda that balances the theoretical and practical, experiential and conceptual world of design.
