The Norman Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunology at UCLA is seeking an individual at the rank of Adjunct Assistant Professor whose interdisciplinary program of research focuses on understanding psychobiological mechanisms of depression across the lifespan. The candidate will work within a center that investigates the interactions between the brain and the body, the role of psychological well-being for health and recovery from illness, and the translation of such knowledge into effective behavioral strategies that prevent disease, promote healing and enhance well-being across the life span.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field and should have a strong background in research and mentoring. Essential skills include grant writing, including a demonstrated ability to acquire funding as a Principal Investigator, experience in the design and implementation of randomized controlled trials, and expertise in multi-level assessment of affect, cognition, and behavior. The ideal candidate will have training in health, clinical, and quantitative psychology, psychoneuroimmunology, as well as knowledge of emerging transdiagnostic perspectives on depression.

Applicants must have experience in conducting collaborative research that takes an interdisciplinary and dimensional approach to the study of depression. Applicant’s research record should include: (1) training in assessment of systemic and genomic inflammatory biomarkers; (2) demonstrated skills in biobehavioral study design; (3) ability to evaluate core dimensions of depression using behavioral tasks and multilevel statistical analyses; (4) a publication record in peer-reviewed journals; (5) knowledge of preclinical and clinical literature examining the inflammatory basis of depressive behaviors; (6) a record of teaching undergraduate coursework in psychology and/or individual mentoring of undergraduate students; (7) a demonstrated background in successful collaboration with multiple disciplines, such as neuroscience and social genomics.
