FACULTY POSITION CALL INSTITUTE FOR BIOLOGICAL AND MEDICAL ENGINEERING AND SCHOOL OF MEDICINE PONTIFICIA UNIVERSIDAD CATÓLICA DE CHILE

The Institute of Biological and Medical Engineering (IIBM) and the School of Medicine at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile[1] invite

applications for two tenure track full-time faculty positions in the area of Clinical and Biomedical Research Informatics and Data Science

The positions will have a joint affiliation with the School of Medicine and IIBM. The objective of this call is to enhance the area of clinical research informatics in both units and the university and to collaborate with academics dedicated to the implementation of informatics tools to facilitate clinical research, designing workflows to improve the use of electronic health record (EHR), developing infrastructures for advanced data analytics, and balancing the need for data security and privacy.

Role and responsibilities of the position: The responsibilities associated with both positions include leading the governance process for developing a clinical and biomedical research informatic unit within our clinical campus and the IIBM. This includes leading the design, implementation, and ongoing optimization of a central data warehouse to support the combined goal of safe and high-quality clinical and biomedical data for research purposes. The incumbent will support the clinical and biomedical research community in providing access to useful data analytics to support clinical and biomedical research, cohort developments and clinical trials. Follow regulatory compliance and achieve operational efficiency; build on existing collaborations between the School of Medicine and Clinical Campus to develop a strategy for applied informatics that embrace the continuum from population-level care to clinical and biomedical research. Participate in the joint strategy between Red de Salud UC-CHRISTUS to develop information systems; lead the informatics program for research across the health system, oversee the safe and efficient design of the EHR and develop different services to support clinical research abroad the School of Medicine. This position plays a key role in developing and maintaining relationships with colleagues, clinical investigators, and leadership to align priorities to mission that will lead to cultural change and increase access to clinical trials and cohort studies.

Requirements: Candidates with the following profiles are welcome to apply for the positions: - Ph.D. in bioinformatics, informatics, medical informatics, or similar areas. Postdoctoral experience is highly desirable, preferably on EHR in academic health systems, and knowledge on health-related data security - Health care area professional with postgraduate studies (PhD level) in informatics or clinical research informatics. Preferably, experience working on EHR in academic health systems, and knowledge on health-related data security. A strong understanding of both medical research and clinical care.

The applicant should have an outstanding publication track record in the area, with the potential to obtain external research funding and develop high-quality teaching. Demonstrated team building and leadership skills to promote partnerships and successful collaborations. Experience working in higher education and healthcare-related work environments. Candidates do not need to speak Spanish at the time of applying but should be prepared to learn the language well enough to begin teaching in Spanish in the short term.

3. Research statement (in English) indicating immediate and long term goals for your research plan. Detail potential collaboration networks with other researchers and plans for interactions with scientists in Chile and other countries.
4. Teaching statement (in English) indicating why you should be considered for the position and your plans for teaching. Be as specific as possible, e.g. giving examples of how you aim to transfer your knowledge to undergraduate and graduate students.
5. In addition, candidates should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be emailed directly by the signatories to BMEfacultypositions@uc.cl

If this initial screening is successful, the candidate will be asked to give a lecture on his/her current research topics and hold interviews with the faculty members from the Selection Committee.
