Full Professor of Electron Microscopy

The Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Geodesy of Graz University of Technology is seeking to appoint a full professor of

Electron Microscopy

at the Institute of Electron Microscopy and Nanoanalytics, starting October 01, 2020. The position is tenured according to Section 98 of the Austrian University Act (§98 UG).

 

The institute has a long tradition in the field of high-resolution electron microscopy and the development of new investigation methods for materials and life sciences. We are looking for a scientifically outstanding personality who strengthens research in the field of 2D and 3D electron microscopy with atomic resolution. For example, topics like Nanonalytics, Cryo- and In-situ Microscopy or Electron Tomography will come into consideration. In the field of teaching, the future position holder should represent electron microscopy in its full breadth (at bachelor, master, doctoral level) as well as other specialist topics of the institute.

 

Within the framework of Nawi Graz, the Graz University of Technology and the University of Graz are striving to bring together their physics departments under a common roof, the Graz Center of Physics. It is expected that the future holder of the position will be actively involved in the Graz Center of Physics and is also willing to cooperate interdisciplinary with local research groups and further to develop the institute as a central service unit. In addition, the traditionally close cooperation with the Graz Centre for Electron Microscopy shall to be continued and fostered.

 

Applicants must have earned a doctorate (Ph.D.) in the required discipline or in a closely related field from an Austrian or equivalent foreign university.

 

Key selection criteria are as follows:

  • Outstanding scientific qualifications in research and education in the subject to be filled and relevant international experience
  • Excellent pedagogical and didactic skills (as evidenced by a habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements)
  • Leadership abilities
  • Successful experience in the acquisition of third-party funds

 

The chosen applicant should have a strong command of the English language, written and spoken, in order to effectively represent and communicate the subject matter in an international context both in the classroom and in the research field. If the candidate does not yet have sufficient knowledge of the German language, he or she must be willing to pursue and acquire said language skills.

The chosen applicant is expected to relocate his or her main residence to the Graz area.
