We are looking for

As full professor you will play a key role in the leadership of a team of specialists in English literatures and cultures since 1550, who teach courses on English literature and culture in the Ba programme English Language and Culture, the Ma programme Literature, the minor programme Literature in Society/Society in Literature and the Research MA degree programme in Historical, Literary and Cultural Studies. Their research is on various aspects of English literature and culture, such as contemporary theatre, literary adaptations, metamodernism, Irish studies and periodical cultures. Your research will be embedded in the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH; formerly HLCS) and fits in with one or several of the research themes in RICH. You believe that team work is key to the quality of teaching and research, and are interested in cross-disciplinary collaboration in teaching and research with colleagues in other language programmes, and in the programmes in historical and cultural studies. You are interested in and willing to be involved in teaching and research administration.

As a candidate for this position you:
  • Have a doctoral degree in English literary and cultural studies.
  • Have native or near-native command of English.
  • Take an interest in English studies in a Dutch as well as an international context.
  • Are familiar with the Dutch university system.
  • Are an international authority in your field.
  • Have an outstanding publication record, including a series of relevant output in leading international publication outlets.
  • Have experience in supervising PhD candidates effectively and to a high standard.
  • Have a strong track record of external research funding, and further plans to acquire externally funded research projects.
  • Are an inspiring and demanding teacher, with ample teaching experience at all university levels.
  • Have obtained a University Teaching Qualification (BKO), or are prepared to take courses in order to obtain this qualification in a relatively short time.
  • Can show evidence of strong and inspiring leadership, and experience in administrative tasks and management.
  • Candidates who are not native speakers of Dutch will be expected to acquire near-native command of Dutch within two years after appointment.

The Faculty of Arts employs over 500 academic and support staff in the fields of history and art, languages and cultures, linguistics and communication. Research is embedded in one of the two faculty research institutes: the Centre for Language Studies (CLS) or the Radboud Institute for Culture and History (RICH). The faculty currently enrols some 2,400 students, in three departments: the department of History, Art History and Classics, the department of Modern Languages and Cultures, and the department of Language and Communication. We offer

  • Employment: 32 - 40 hours per week.
  • A maximum gross monthly salary of € 8.127 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale H2).
  • The exact salary depends on the candidate's qualifications and amount of relevant professional experience.
  • In addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • Duration of the contract: 5 years, with the possibility of permanent employment.
  • The intended start date is 1 September 2020.
