Full Professor of Soil Physics

at pay grade W 3 (minimum salary per month: 7,217 euros) to commence as soon as possible. This is a permanent civil service position.

The faculty invites applications especially from high potential researchers who investigate the interactions between physical, biological, and chemical processes in the soil-plant-air continuum. Research methods shall include experiments or process-based models. Possible research areas are: 1) rhizosphere processes and interactions with the transport of gases, water, nutrients, contaminants and microplastic in the soil and the “Earth’s Critical Zone”.; 2) impact of physical soil properties and hydrologic dynamics on soil microorganisms, nutrient cycling and/ or root activity; 3) biophysical controls of soil and ecosystem processes on scales ranging from rhizosphere to landscape in connection with e.g. climate change, land use, and soil erosion.

The incumbent will teach courses in soil physics primarily for the degree programmes Geo-Ecology (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) and for the international degree programmes Global Change Ecology (M.Sc.) and Environmental Geography (M.Sc.). The ability to teach in English is expected.

The incumbent will actively engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and research in Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 1357 on Microplastics, the Bayreuth Center of Ecology and Environmental Research (BayCEER), and the Institute of Africa Studies at the University of Bayreuth.

In addition to the general administrative requirements, prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree, proven excellence in teaching, and a post-doctoral qualification to teach at a professorial level (Habilitation). Alternatively, evidence of equivalent scholarly achievement, for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment, will also be considered. According to Bavarian law, only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants. Exceptions will only be made if there are urgent reasons for doing so.
