Director of the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University announces a selection procedure for the position:

Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology

Department of Surgical Oncology (KOO) is a clinical, educational and research department of the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute (MOÚ) and the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University. It specializes in the surgical treatment of malignant tumours and, in terms of the number of oncological surgeries performed, ranks among the largest centres in the Czech Republic, particularly in the fields of urological, gynaecological, breast and skin, gastrointestinal and soft-tissue sarcoma surgery.
KOO is functionally divided into specialized units: the Department of Breast, Skin and Oncoplastic Surgery, the Department of Surgical Oncology, the Department of Gynaecological Oncology, the Department of Urological Oncology, and the Central Operating Theatres.
KOO has fully developed programmes in conventional, endoscopic, laparoscopic and robotic oncological surgery, as well as a HIPEC programme, and is also involved in prophylactic surgery for individuals with hereditary cancer syndromes.

The candidate for the position of Head of the Department should be a respected specialist in the field of surgical treatment of solid tumours, with experience working in a multidisciplinary oncology team at a comprehensive cancer centre, as well as experience in undergraduate and postgraduate education.

The Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology will be responsible for managing the department, undergraduate education of medical students, doctoral studies, publication activities, and coordination of research conducted at the department. At the same time, they will continue to provide clinical care at the Department of Surgical Oncology within the scope of their specialist qualification. As part of the selection procedure, candidates for the position will present their vision for fulfilling the above responsibilities.

Requirements for a declared position:

• university education in General Medicine or an equivalent degree obtained abroad,
• eligibility for independent practice as a physician in the field of surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, or urology pursuant to Section 5 of Act No. 95/2004 Coll., with at least 5 years of professional experience following the acquisition of specialist competence,
• at least 5 years of professional experience in the field at a healthcare provider facility that is part of a Comprehensive Cancer Centre,
• habilitation pursuant to Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions, as amended, is an advantage, or the potential to obtain habilitation within 3 years,
• personal and professional qualifications for managing the clinical healthcare and academic team,
• teaching experience and readiness to guarantee the professional subjects taught at the department. 
• scientific and publishing activities in the given field,
• active knowledge of Czech (or Slovak, as applicable) and English,
• moral integrity,
• fulfilment of prerequisites according to Act No. 451/1991 Coll. (the Lustration Act); does not have to document persons born after 1 December 1971.
