Position Description

The Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Washington invites applications for an acting instructor position in Applied Mathematics, starting September 16, 2020. This can be in any area of applied mathematics, but particularly in the research areas that are currently represented in the department (climate and atmospheric science, data science, dynamical systems, financial mathematics, mathematical biology, mathematical methods, nonlinear waves, numerical analysis, scientific computing, and optimization) This full-time 12-month temporary acting instructor non-tenure position is renewable for a total duration of four years dependent on satisfactory teaching performance and research progress. Up to two positions will be filled. Successful applicants are expected to engage in research and teach on average no more than 2 courses per academic quarter.

Requirements include (1) background and interest in applied mathematics (2) a PhD or foreign equivalent in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or another area relevant to applied mathematics; (3) an ability and affinity for communicating ideas of mathematics, in both teaching and research settings.
