The Department of Neurosurgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Instructor position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area of biomarker development, quantitative methods, imaging segmentation, biomechanical studies, and meshing. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
Responsibilities may include employing a multifaceted approach integrating genomics, biomechanics, medical imaging, and AI to elucidate complex spinal disease mechanisms.
The successful applicant will have an opportunity to publish original clinical research, apply for grants and collaborate closely with department members on multiple projects. The candidate will also have the opportunity to grow into an independent investigator who serves as a co-investigator or principal investigator on research grants and contracts and further develop their skills in advancing new research ideas, obtaining funding to explore them, performing research, and preparing manuscripts as first or senior author.
