The Graphic Design Program in the School of Design at South Dakota State University invites applications for an Instructor to begin August 2019.

 

Successful candidate must be proficient in the theories and fundamentals of Graphic Design expertise with a working knowledge of the Adobe CC and emerging advancement in Web Design. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate classes where technical skill, contemporary culture, design theory, and cross-disciplinary collaboration are key.


We seek a colleague who has a thorough understanding of the implications of design practice in relationship to broader social, cultural, economic, scientific, and technological forces; has the ability to inspire students and to help them develop skills necessary for the translation of meaningful ideas into innovative and actionable solutions to real world problems; and can assist with the development and support of the program’s relationship with external partnerships and non-profit institutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in Graphic Design, developing curriculum, mentoring students, supporting accreditation effort, service, and engaging in student recruitment and retention.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
MFA or equivalent terminal degree in Graphic Design or closely related field by August 15, 2019.
• Relevant teaching experience at the university level.
• Portfolio of student work demonstrating ability to teach at the university level. 
• Effective interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrable record of teaching experience in areas (Digital Design, Typography, and Graphic Design) at the unveristy level.
• Teaching or/and professional experience in Web Design (HTMLCSS, JavaScript, and/or PHP knowledge).
• Graphic Design expertise in professional practice as demonstrated through the portfolio. 
• Record of service within the discipline (student recruitment and retention).
• Demonstrable commitment to working with diverse students, faculty, and staff.
• Evidence of collaborative and cross-disciplinary teaching.
