The Department of Modern Languages and Global Studies at South Dakota State University seeks a full-time, non-tenure-track, renewable (based on enrollment and funding) Instructor position in Spanish starting Fall 2019. The successful candidate will teach 12 to 15 units per semester (3 to 4 classes) consisting of all levels of Spanish. Other duties may include developing new Spanish courses as needed and engaging in service-related and professional development activities in the department, college, university, community, and profession. Applicants must be committed to undergraduate education and demonstrate excellence in teaching.


SDSU is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to and/or coordinate course offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in societies and cultures. Women, veterans, persons with disabilities, and minorities are encouraged to apply.


MA in Spanish, Linguistics, or a related field by start date; a record of excellence in teaching language courses; native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English; effective written communication skills; effective verbal and interpersonal skills in Spanish and English.


ABD or Ph.D. in Spanish, Linguistics, or a related field; ability to teach linguistics in both Spanish and English; completed coursework or teaching experience in Spanish for the Professions, Language for Specific Purposes, or Heritage Language Pedagogy; ability to teach Peninsular Literature and Culture courses.
