Position description

The Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Junior Specialist. The Junior Specialist in the Stacy Lab will report to Professor Emerita Stacy in the Chemistry Department at UC Berkeley to work on the project “Developing Student Identity and Self-Perception as Capable STEM Thinkers and Learners.” The project involves collaboration with the College of Marin, Diablo Valley College, and California State University at Sonoma on the development of curricula for introductory chemistry. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain additional training and interact with the broad spectrum of researchers.

Duties of the position include but are not limited to: gathering, compiling, and analyzing enrollment and retentions data for Introductory Chemistry at the California State Universities and community colleges in California; developing activities that would support student learning in Introductory Chemistry and support the retention of students in STEM majors; assisting in preparing questionnaires and performing preliminary analyses of the data collected by devising coding schemes and using statistical techniques; preparing data for presentation in graphic, tabular, pictorial, and written form.

    • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, science education, or related fields

    • Ability to collaborate well with others in a team
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
