Ph.D. Junior Researcher in Production and Resource Economics

The Chair Group of Production and Resource Economics at the TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan and the TUM School of Management offers a Ph.D. Junior Researcher position in Production and Resource Economics starting at the earliest Oct 1, 2020. Initial appointment will be 2 years with the possibility of extension. Salary is in accordance with the German State Regulated Public Salary Scale (TV-L E13 2/3).

Tasks

The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge research in production and/or resource economics lead-ing to an international competitive PhD degree and internationally peer-reviewed publications. He/she will receive high quality supervision from the chair holder as well as senior academic staff and might be involved in teaching at under/postgraduate level as well as funding acquisition and outreach, if desired. The successful candidate is also expected to actively engage in a leading international project on integrated pest management (IPM) funded under the European Union H2020 program. The core aspects of this project include a conceptual and empirical economic assessment of conventional and alternative pest control strategies, an econometric evaluation of the willingness-to-accept IPM, the completion of a comprehensive Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) as well as the estimation of adoption and productivity impacts of different IPM treatment strategies.
 
Qualifications
 
The applicants should possess:
  • an excellent or very good university degree in economics or applied economics (e.g. agricultural economics, natural resource economics, environmental economics, ecological economics, agribusiness management), or related disciplines;
  • strong analytical and methodological skills with a focus on quantitative data analysis (e.g. econometrics, statistics) as well as qualitative approaches (e.g. survey design, stakeholder analysis);
  • knowledge of/interest in agriculture and natural resources;
  • knowledge of production economics and agricultural/environmental policy is a plus;
  • a high motivation and the ability to work independently with a strong team orientation;
  • excellent spoken and written English.
