This position is being filled as part of UCC Futures - Future Pharmaceuticals.

UCC wishes to appoint a CAMS Lecturer in Analytical Chemistry to strengthen the research capability and academic excellence in the School of Chemistry within the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS) ( https://www.ucc.ie/en/chemistry/ ). The Community of Analytical Measurement Scientist (CAMS) (www.cams-uk.co.uk) is a joint initiative of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Industry to sponsor and support innovation in the Analytical Sciences through the funding of academic and research posts. The successful appointee will deliver teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate courses and conduct research on advanced innovative techniques to address existing and emerging challenges in real sample analysis across the matrix spectrum from pharmaceutical, environmental, or biological systems. The successful appointee will be located within the School of Chemistry and the Analytical and Biological Chemistry Research Facility (ABCRF) (https://www.ucc.ie/en/abcrf/).

Applicants interested in applying for the position should have a PhD in Analytical Chemistry (or equivalent discipline) with strengths in the underlying chemical and physical principles to enable excellence in lecture content and delivery, and for training through research at PhD and taught Masters levels Proven or potential ability to attract funding through competitive research grants or other sources as relevant is required, with commitment and drive for interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues and industry. Reporting to the Head of the School of Chemistry, the successful candidate will contribute to the teaching activities in Analytical Chemistry, and related areas, as well as the research strategy of the Analytical Chemistry division, the School, and the ABCRF.

The School of Chemistry (https://www.ucc.ie/en/chemistry/) within the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS) comprises the academic disciplines of analytical, inorganic, organic, pharmaceutical and physical chemistry. The School offers three undergraduate honours degree programmes accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), namely the degrees of BSc Chemistry, BSc Chemistry of Pharmaceutical Compounds and the BSc Chemistry with Forensic Science (CFS), in addition to the BSc Chemical Physics degree accredited by the Institute of Physics in collaboration with the Physics Department.
The School also delivers taught RSC accredited MSc programmes in Analytical Chemistry, Environmental and Pharmaceutical Analysis to national and international postgraduate students.
Furthermore the School holds an Athena SWAN Bronze Award and is proactively committed to equality and diversity in the workplace.

The Analytical & Biological Chemistry Research Facility (ABCRF) is a state-of-the-art interdisciplinary research centre housed in the Pharmacy Building, University College Cork. The ABCRF houses several state-of-the-art Bruker NMR spectrometers (including a 600 MHz instrument). Electrospray Ionisation mass spectrometers from Waters/Micromass are available in at the ABCRF, including an LCT Premier Time of Flight and a Quattro triple quadrupole instrument. Both instruments are configured for high throughput liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LCMS).

Appointment may be made on the Lecturer (Below the Bar) Salary Scale: €37,912 - €66,429 (Scale B)

Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
