Position description

ANG 107 (Genetics & Animal Breeding)
This 5.0-unit course will be taught in-person Spring 2023 and is scheduled 5 days/wk (four hours of lecture, one hour of discussion) with help coordinating additional one-hour discussions facilitated by TAs.
Genetics and Animal Breeding (ANG 107) is a lecture course with discussions, quizzes, and exams. Teaching Assistants are assigned to lead discussions and assist with quiz/exam question writing and grading. ANG 107 covers principles of population and quantitative genetics applied to the improvement of animal populations. In other words, ANG 107 is a population and quantitative genetics course taught in the context of animal breeding. BIS 101 (Genes & Gene Expression) is a required prerequisite. ANG 107 is a required course for the Animal Science (ANS) major, has a typical enrollment of 180, is taken almost exclusively by senior ANS students, and is taught in both fall and spring quarters.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• PhD in Animal Science or closely related field
• Evidence of teaching experience in Animal Science and related field
• Knowledge of animal breeding requirements and interest to lead students in critical thinking and writing assignments concerning this topic
• Availability to teach in-person classes on the UC Davis campus during the spring quarter of 2023 (Service dates for the Spring Quarter of 2023 will be March 30, 2023-June 15, 2023, pay period will be April 1st-June 30th)
