The School of Communication and Arts is a large, research-intensive unit with an international reputation for outstanding research and teaching in English Literature, Art History, Communication, Media, Film and Television Studies, Journalism and Communication, Public Relations, Creative and Professional Writing, and Drama. It has over 50 academic and research staff and 11 professional staff. Our academics are widely published internationally and have extensive research backgrounds. The School is one of seven schools within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and is based on the St Lucia Campus.The School teaches into the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Advanced Humanities, the Bachelor of Communication, the Bachelor of Journalism, and the Bachelor of International Studies, and has a suite of postgraduate coursework programs. Its postgraduate programs include Creative Writing; Writing, Editing, and Publishing; Strategic Communication; and Communication for Social Change. About This Opportunity

The School of Communication and Arts is seeking a Lecturer to engage in undergraduate teaching in the Western Civilisation major, which is offered as part of the Advanced Humanities degree.The successful candidate will:
  • Teach into the Western Civilisation major, which will involve an ‘icons of western art’ course.  This course will be taught through small discussion-focussed classes.
  • Contribute to other courses in the Western Civilisation major which contain visual components.
  • Assist in the teaching of the core units of the Advanced Humanities degree.
  • Foster the School’s relations with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.
  • Maintain a program of research including scholarly publication.
This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an individual who possesses:
  • A PhD in the area of Art History, or closely related field.
  • Expertise in knowledge of Western Art, as well as an understanding of Western Art’s intersections within the fields of politics, literature, history and philosophy
  • Demonstrated teaching skills at undergraduate levels
  • Preparedness to use alternative modes of teaching, digital technologies, flexible learning options
  • Evidence of a contribution to research and an active research agenda
  • A track record of publication in high quality outlets, and presentation of conference papers
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
