Lecturer in Automotive

Universal College of Learning

New Zealand

Are you the type of person who can naturally connect and engage with students who are new to tertiary study? Are you passionate about making a difference in our youth’s lives? Have a love of all things automotive? Then this could be the position for you.

The Universal College of Learning is a government-funded Institute of Technology, with campuses in Palmerston North, Whanganui, Wairarapa and Levin. It meets the needs of local communities and industry by providing tertiary level training to over 6,400 students each year through a wide range of programmes from entry level certificates and foundation courses to diplomas’ degrees and opportunities in post graduate study.

UCOL’s School of Construction and Engineering has an exciting opportunity available for a motivated, passionate and suitably qualified automotive professional who wishes to move into the world of teaching. This is a fixed-term full-time position (40 hours per week) based at our Masterton Campus. The successful candidate will have current skills, knowledge and ideally a minimum of 10 years industry experience to deliver our Automotive Engineering Level 3 programme.

This position will require you to be hands on, facilitating one on one learning, mentoring and motivating students, leading workshops and working with students individually, so your well-tuned rapport building and communication skills will be required. You will have the full support of the Head of School and Programme Leader with all delivery resources and practical assessments fully developed, and be working alongside our resident tutor.

You will have diverse skills including a relevant automotive qualification along with industry experience, including training and supporting apprentices. It would be a strong advantage if you also held the NZ Certificate in Adult Literacy & Numeracy Education (NZCALNE), the NZ Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (NZCAT) or equivalent and unit 4098 workbased assessor, however these are not a requirement.

At UCOL we embrace diversity, talent and performance, and provide our staff with an extensive range of opportunities to develop intellectually, professionally and personally.

All your details must be registered on https://careers.ucol.ac.nz/home for you to be able to apply for a job with us. As soon as you register and then apply for a role, a confirmation email will be sent to you.

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa and will be required to undergo pre-employment checks; including completing New Zealand Police Vetting as part of the Children's Act 2014 and a pre-employment drug test for this safety sensitive role.
