Applications are invited for appointment as Lecturer in Buddhist Counselling in the Centre of Buddhist Studies (Ref.: 499902), to commence on September 1, 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

The Centre promotes innovative thinking and new horizons for Buddhist studies and research. Information about the Centre can be obtained at http://www.buddhism.hku.hk.

Appplicants should possess a Master’s degree, preferably a doctoral degree, in Buddhist counselling or a related discipline; be a registered social worker, counsellor or clinical psychologist, plus a minimum of 3 years’ relevant post-registration local work experience. They should have a strong and solid academic empirical research background in Buddhist counselling or related discipline; experience and competency in quantitative research and data analysis using SPSS or other statistical packages would be an advantage. Good written and oral communication skills; and the ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team are required. Relevant work and research experience in Buddhist counselling related to children and youth is preferable. Preference will be given to those with higher academic qualifications, recent experience in teaching related to Buddhist counselling and good relevant publication track record.

The appointee will be required to teach courses in Buddhist counselling, assist in the management and operation of a Buddhist Counselling Centre, conduct empirical research in Buddhist counselling, and be responsible for undertaking the administrative duties of a postgraduate diploma programme.

A highly competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered, as well as annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
