Lecturer in Celtic Insular Languages and Cultures (0.7 FTE)
Job description
The Department of Languages, Literature and Communication at Utrecht University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a Lecturer ('docent') in Celtic Languages and Culture, starting September 1, 2023 (0,7 fte). Teaching will be primarily at Bachelor level, though some teaching at the Master’s level is also possible.
The programme is centered around the literatures and linguistics of Medieval Irish and Medieval Welsh and has a strong focus on language. Students are expected to learn both Old Irish and Middle Welsh to a high level, as well as familiarize themselves with at least one other relevant language (Modern Irish, Modern Welsh, Old English, Old Norse or Medieval Latin) at a more basic level.
The successful candidate will be able to teach within the programme; no specific area of specialisation is required. The exact range of courses to be taught will depend on the candidate’s interests and abilities and will be arranged in consultation with the permanent members of staff. In addition, candidates may be invited to contribute to a small number of courses within the Insular track of the Research MA programme ‘Ancient, Medieval, and Renaissance Studies’.
If desired and appropriate, the candidate can take part in a BKO (basis kwalificatie onderwijs – basic teaching qualification) course to obtain teaching certification at university level.
